Marketing Director - national transport operator

The brief:

To recruit a Marketing Director reporting to the Managing Director.

This was a key role in the UK’s leadership team, responsible for the leadership of marketing operations across all UK divisions. Our client was looking for a candidate who would have the ability to develop, grow and retain business by delivering the marketing strategy, including being the key interface between business development and business leaders with regards to strategy, pipeline and all marketing activities.

The role aligned activity and responsibility accordingly to deliver the marketing strategy and plans across all business units. The role combined the development of marketing offers for the UK market, working with key stakeholders for successful delivery. It required a clear value proposition and leadership both internally and with external agencies to approach activities cohesively. Continuous analysis of the market was essential to develop market-leading solutions based on real insight with full responsibility for the market spend and budget.

The process:

We worked with the client to establish their criteria and sector-specific target list. We looked at candidates we have established relationships with and utilised our external network to source candidates that would not only meet the role requirements of the brief but would also complement their corporate culture.

Our candidate short list was diverse and experienced, with solid marketing backgrounds and with the knowledge to deliver the strategy and to lead effectively. It was important to our client that the candidate could lead with both the technical experience for the role and the emotional intelligence to effectively lead the team.

With a shortlist that our client was happy with, we funnelled down further through our robust recruitment process, including interviews, before presenting candidates for the clients to interview. At this stage, it was for the client to decide on their best ‘fit’ for their evolving corporate culture.

The result:

We were delighted that our client secured a strategic and operational leader from a relevant sector to take our client’s strategy forwards. The candidate’s experience within their sector and within marketing leadership roles made them the ideal hire.
