Brand Director - FTSE 350 consumer services

The brief:

To recruit a highly experienced Brand Director to build and manage the overarching brand strategy and engagement plan for this leading consumer services company. 

The role required a brand expert to define the brand strategy, the five-year vision, roadmap and proof points. The client was looking for someone who could understand the brand holistically, across the full portfolio, in order to meet customer needs, create engagement and deliver commercial benefits. 

It was important for candidates to come from consumer-facing service sectors, such as retail, financial services, telecoms and utilities. An agency background, or mix of both, would also work. From a leadership perspective, candidates would have the ability to engage and collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders.

The process:

Our relationship with this client is strong and established – we frequently recruit for their marketing and digital teams – so our understanding of their culture gave this project a head-start. However, we spent time with them to fully understand the objectives of this role and its place within the wider business. 

We utilised our candidate network internally and also widened the search through advertising and recommendations. We quickly received an enormous amount of interest for this role, so our consultants assessed and filtered down candidates into a long list of potential talent. Senior consultants then spent time conducting further interviews to identify a very strong and specific short list to present to our client. 

Our shortlist combined the brand strategy and engagement expertise our client was looking for with diverse backgrounds and sector experience. When presenting the shortlist, we knew that the calibre of candidates would provide our client with an exceptional interview process. 

The result:

Our client quickly identified their preferred candidate and presented a job offer. Not only was their chosen candidate ideal from a technical point of view, they also had the qualities to fit well within the organisation and to support positive change.
